Abstract

Objective To understand the AIDS related knowledge and behavior among the construction workers and surrounding residents,in order to evaluate the intervention efficacy of the health promotion education and gain experience for carrying out AIDS prevention work among the floating population in the future. Methods We carried out AIDS education for the construction workers and surrounding residents in some area in Xiangyang city, then we granted for questionnaires to these people before and after six months of intervention. We compared the changes by the Chi-square test. Results Through the AIDS education, respondents had improved significantly about the AIDS-related knowledge, especially about the origin of HIV(before and after intervention were 66.87% and 80.27%) and transmission route(before and after intervention were 43.40%,59.64%) of HIV infection. They changed their views to AIDS patients, for example, those who were willing to live with AIDS patients increased significanctly(before and after intervention were 49.69% and 68.22% separately with P0.01).Conclusions Construction workers and residents improve their knowledge about prevention of AIDS by the AIDS education,it helps to reduce the incidence of risk behaviors significantly.
