Abstract

A solution culture experiment was conducted to study the ability of four aquatic plants,Eichhornia crassipes,Al-ternanthera philoxeroides,Cyperus iria and Ludwigia hyssopifolia,in absorbing nitrogen(N) and phosphorus(P).The results showed that the amount of NH4+-N,NO3--N and P absorbed by four aquatic plants followed the order: Eichhornia crassipes Alternanthera philoxeroides Cyperus iria Ludwigia hyssopifolia, which were correlated positively to their fresh weight of plant. Therefore,Eichhornia crassipes was more suitable for constructed wetland for the removal of N and P.
