Abstract

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the expression of the multidrug resistance gene (MDR\-1) and clinical prognosis in acute leukemia (AL). Methods: We examined 59 specimens obtained from different states of patients with AL by in situ hybridization with streptavidin gold(ISH SAG). Results: (1) The positive rate of MDR\-1 in ANLL (50.0%)were not statistically different than that of ALL (37.5%) (P0.05). (2) The positive rate of MDR\-1 in relapse or refractory group were significantly higher than that in complete remission group (P0.05). (3) Complete remission(CR) rate was 22.2% in MDR\-1 positive cases and 80.0% in MDR\-1 negative cases(P0.05). (4)The sensitivity?specificity?and accuracy of MDR\-1 were 77.8%?80.0%?79.0% respectively. Conclusion: Expression of MDR\-1 was related to clinical drug resistance. It is an unfavorable prognostic parameter for patients with AL. MDR\-1 offers more predictive sensitivity and specificity.
