Abstract
polymerization of Methyl methacrylate(MMA) initiated by Na2SO3/H2O system is investigated, and the factors that influence polymerization rate (Rp) and molecular weight are also discussed. The results indicate that MMA polymerization can be initiated by Na2SO3/H2O system efficiently, the overall polymerization rate can be expressed as Rp= k[MMA]1.6 [Na2SO3]0.44, the overall activation energy Ea is 81.7 kJ/mol, the molecular weight of polymer is 1.36x105 and the monomer conversion is 86.7 %. The possible polymerization mechanism is proposed.
