Abstract
Objective To explore the relationship between serum level of true insulin (TI) and peptide C and obesity and the elderly hypertension. Methods 35 elderly patients with hypertension and without diabetes were divided into obesity group (n=20) and non-obesity group (n=15) according to body mass index (BMI). 20 elderly healthy were selected as control. Fasting serum true insulin and peptide C levels were determined by microparticle chemiluminescence method. Homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) and HOMA-islet were evaluated by HOMA.Results Serum true insulin, peptide C levels and HOMA-IR and HOMA-islet were higher in obesity group and non-obesity group than those in controls. Dependability analysis showed serum true insulin had positive correlation to peptide C, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) and blood uric acid. Conclusions The elderly patients with hypertension and without diabetes, especially those with obesity, have the increased serum true insulin, peptide C, total cholesterol, LDL-C and blood uric acid than the healthy elderly, presenting IR, hyperinsulinemia, compensative function enhancement of β cell of islet. Serum true insulin levels have positive correlation to peptide C, FPG, LDL-C and blood uric acid in the elderly patients with hypertension and without diabetes.
