Abstract

Objective To investigate the roles of serum IL 6,IL 8 and TNF α in the early diagnosis of severe acute pancreatitis(SAP).Methods The serum levels of these cytokines in 41 cases of SAP,61 cases of mild acute pancreatitis(MAP) and 20 normal controls were determined by sandwich ELISA method. Results It was found that the serum levels of IL 6,IL 8 and TNF α were markedly higher in SAP than those in MAP and in the normal controls within 24 hours of admission(P0 01).These decreased close to the normal levels after 7 days treatment. The serum level of TNF α was markedly higher in MAP than that in the normal controls on admission(P0 01);while the serum levels of IL 6 and IL 8 were slightly but insignificantly higher in MAP compared with the normal controls. Conclusion The determination of serum levels of IL 6,IL 8 and TNF α may be served as effective markers of early SAP.TNF α plays a major role in the course of progression from MAP to SAP.
