Investigation on the nursing trainee's needs for knowledge and skills of clinical nursing care of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Objective To investigate the needs for knowledge and skills of clinical nursing care of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) among the nursing students in our hospital so as to provide a basis for education reformation in Traditional Chinese Medical nursing.Methods According to the textbooks of Technical and Operating Criterion of Shanghai Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital and Traditional Chinese Medical Nursing,63 undergraduates were investigated by a self-designed questionnaire,focusing on knowledge and skills of TCM clinical nursing care.Results The correct answer rate of basic knowledge about TCM was only 59%,which was far from enough.Thirty-seven students(58.7%) had never learnt any TCM nursing care skills.But 92.1% students expressed hearty need to learn TCM nursing care skills and had optimistic attitude towards its development.Conclusion Most clinical nursing trainees lack TCM basic knowledge.An effective training mechanism should be established.Practical training should be strengthened to help them master the knowledge better,and promote the development of TCM nursing career.
