Abstract
Ethyl Laurate was synthesized by using silicon dioxide as catalyst supported on phosphotungstic acid. The effects of the molar ration of lauric acid to alcohol, mass of catalyst, reaction time and temperature on the yield were investigated.Experimental results show that silicon dioxide supported on phosphotungstic acid was an excellent catalyst. The yield was over 80% under optimum condition. The suitable conditions were that molar ratio of lauric acid to alcohol is 1∶5,amount of catalys is 6.0% of the lauric acid, reaction temperature is 90 ℃ and reaction time is 4.0 h.
