Abstract

Objective To analyze the factors influencing the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation Maze procedure combined with open-heart operation for treatment of atrial fibrillation. Methods The clinical data of 58 consecutive patients, who underwent radiofrequency modified Maze procedure combined with open-heart surgery for atrial fibrillation, were collected. The findings of most recent electrocardiogram examination were obtained through follow-up.COX's regression analysis was applied to identify the independent factors influencing the efficacy of radiofrequency modified maze procedure. Results Follow-up was completed in 94.8% (55/58)patients with a mean follow-up duration of(14.2±6.5) months. The latest follow up showed that the rate of sinus rhythm restoration was 76.4%(42/55).Longer pre-operative duration of atrial fibrillation(4 years)was an independent factor influencing the efficacy of radiofrequency modified Maze procedure for atrial fibrillation(P=0.025).Conclusion Pre-operative duration of atrial fibrillation can significantly influence the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation Maze procedure for patients with atrial fibrillation. The longer the duration of atrial fibrillation, the worse the efficacy of the procedure to restore sinus rhythm.
