Abstract
Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of carotid endarterectomy(CEA) for internal carotid artery occlusion. Methods From June 2001 to April 2010,28 out of 397 cases diagnosed as internal carotid artery occlusion by magnetic resonance angiography were treated with CEA. According to the location and nature and extent of the carotid chose traditionary CEA or eversion CEA. Results The primary patency rates was 92.8%, 28 cases were followed-up for a mean time of 10 months, the long-term patency rate was 78.5%. Conclusions CEA is a safe and effective method for treating patients with internal carotid artery occlusion, particularly for symptomatic or younger patients.
