Abstract

To evaluate the deformation, yield strength and buckling of the 3 600 DWT dry cargo ship, the direct calculation of hydrodynamic loadings was carried out to get the long-term prediction of the dominant load parameters in each load case, find out the parameters of the equivalent design waves, then predict the wave-induced hydrodynamic loads and ship motion of the global ship. Based on the wave loading and inertia loads, the structural strength and stiffness of the global hull were direct assessed by FEM for two goal ships, one has just single hatch and another has a bulkhead in the mid-ship. The calculation results showed that single hatch can't meet the buckling criterion,so a scheme to enhance the buckling strength was given.
