Abstract
This paper discusses the application of functional translation theory in legal translation through the study of the features of legal discourse and the theory of legal equivalence.It is concluded that in spite of the distinctive quality of legal discourse,which leads to insufficient realization of legal equivalence,the criteria of functionalism is an applicable and effective guiding principle for legal translation.
