Abstract
Based on analyzing the large state investment in the Yangtze river flood control after the 1998 flood and its remarkable benefit in flood control, a series of problems on flood control and disaster mitigation, such as the river regime evolution of the middle Yangtze river, the excessive flood discharge in the main stream of the middle Yangtze river, and the design flood level of dykes, construction of flood diversion and flood storage areas and non-structural flood control measures in the middle and lower Yangtze river, etc., after the completion of the Three Gorges reservoir, are expounded. Corresponding countermeasures for flood control are put forward. These countermeasures may be available for reference in the planning, design and scientific research of the Yangtze river flood control.
