Distribution of occlusal force in edentulous patients with implant-supported prostheses

Objective To evaluate the occlusal force distribution in edentulous patients with implant-supported complete denture.Methods Fifteen patients with implant-supported complete denture and 15 people with natural dentition were included in this study.Each subject was instructed to clench pressure-sensitive film with maximum intensity in the intercuspal position(ICP) for three seconds.The occlusal force was recorded and the occlusal force distribution was examined in the anterior,premolar and molor areas.Results Occlusal forces in implant-supported denture group was significantly smaller than those in control group.No significant differences were seen in occlusal force balance between left and right sides.The central position of occlusal force in implant group shifted anteriorly.The proportion of occlusal force in the molar region in implant group was significantly smaller than that in control group,but in the premolar region in implant group was significantly larger than that in control.Conclusion The premolar area bares more occlusal in the case of implant-supported complete denture.
