Abstract

The water content is an important factor affecting compaction degree of expansive soil and its shear strength.According to multiple groups of fast shear test in laboratory, the relationship between shear strength and compactness as well as water content are analyzed respectively by using multiple linear regression method through measuring the soil shear strength and compaction degree characteristics under different water content conditions. The tests result shows that the degree of compaction of unsaturated remolded expansive soil decreases gradually with the increase of water content, and the shear strength increases slowly with the increase of the degree of compaction when the normal stress is low,but the shear strength increases rapidly with increase of the degree of compaction when the normal stress is larger. The shear strength of unsaturated remolded expansive soil is evidently affected by water content, and the shear strength increases with water content's increase when normal stress is low,but the shear strength, when normal stress is larger, increases less apparently with water content's increase, seems unchanged with the water content increases.
