Abstract

It is of great significance to investigate and improve the detection method of stator winding inter- turn short circuit fault in induction motors. The transient simulation of stator winding inter- turn short circuit fault,as well as broken rotor bar fault, has been completed.By thoroughly analyzing the simulation results, this paper points out that the detection methods of stator winding inter- turn short circuit fault, presented in the previous literature, are influenced adversely to some extent by rotor fault, and thus, may misinterpret it as stator winding inter - turn short circuit fault. And then, the reason why the influence exists has been revealed clearly. In fact, the influence derives from the stator current edge frequency components resulted from rotor fault.Furthermore,a novel detection strategy of stator winding inter- turn short circuit fault, which is immune to rotor fault,is recommended. The essence of the recommended countermeasure lies on removing the stator current edge frequency components associated with rotor fault in advance,by using spectrum correction and self-adaptive filter techniques.
