Analysis on the utilization of VCT services among MSM with different characteristics

Objective To analyze the utilization of AIDS voluntary counseling and testing services( VCT) among men having sex with men( MSM) with different characteristics in Wuhan,and provide advice for AIDS prevention and control.Methods Questionnaire survey was conducted among MSM receiving VCT services in Wuhan Xin Yuan working group to collect information on their demographics,behavior and utilization of VTC. Results A total of 5832 MSM were tested for HIV,the prevalence of HIV infection was 3. 91%. Of 3579 MSM cases receiving questionnaires,474 had HIV test in the past,accounted for 13. 62%,the rest( 3005 MSM,86. 38%) were detected with HIV infection for the first time. There age was from 18 to 35 years old,living in Wuhan,being university level and above,having a formal profession,cohabiting with male,or divorced,or widowed. Those whose sex-seeking information was mostly through internet contact,and with poorcondom use,were more likely to seek VCT services. Conclusion The coverage rate of VCT service among MSM in Wuhan was low,it was different in the utilization of VCT service among MSM with different characteristics. Comparing with general health institutions,non-governmental organizations had a unique advantage and played a more important role in improving VCT service.
