The Effects of Paraquat Pesticide on Blood Cell Parameters in Mice

Objective To observe the toxic effects and effects on blood cell parameters in mice exposed to paraquat pesticide with acute oral route. Methods Sixty specific pathogen free( SPF) Kunming mice were divided randomly into 5groups,i. e. 4 groups exposed to paraquat pesticide in 6 h,1 d,3 d and 7 d and one control group. The paraquat pesticide was administered by gavage at 60 mg / kg. BW dose in the 4 experimental groups,while distilled water was administered in control group. The indexes of toxicity,such as the animal body weight,were observed,and the number of deaths and 14 blood cell parameters were measured as well. Results The body weight and physical activity were both decreased,and fluffy fur,breathing difficulties were all exhibited in mice poisoned by paraquat pesticide; the mortality was16. 67%. The lymphocyte percentage of female mice was statistically decreased( F = 2. 96,P0. 05),and the monocyte percentage of female mice was statistically increased( F = 3. 83,P 0. 05) in paraquat pesticide exposed for 3d group than that in the control group( P0. 05). Conclusion The obvious signs of toxicity in mice could be produced by paraquat pesticide administered at 60 mg / kg dose in oral route,and blood lymphocyte percentage declination,monocyte percentage increasing are both exhibited after 3 days of poisoning.
