矴ross tax can,to some extent,reflect the level of the economic development.During the Tang Dynasty,many military governors set up separatist regimes by force,as a result,the Shandongarea in late Tang Dynasty witnessed a decline in gross tax,though in a limited degree,compared with the earlier periods.In spite of the fact that the economic center was still in the northern part of the country,the sonth was the main source of the central government's financial revenue.
