To Promote Wetland Biodiversity Conservation in China——Experiences from the Project "Wetland Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use in China"

The objective of the project Wetland Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use in China implemented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) is to establish wetland biodiversity conservation as a routine consideration in national, provincial and local government policeis’decision . Through establishment of reasonable project organization structures, and various methods’use, such as policy making, public awareness and training, the project results promoted the development of wetland biodiversity conservation. The project gained a series of achivements including: ①promoting policy and law making, providing a safeguard for wetland biodiversity conservation; ②establishing coordination mechanism for government sections, strengthening wetland biodiversity conservation and sustainable use;③advancing the communication and shares of wetland data and information;④enhancing public awareness and education; ⑤researches with multi-subjects, demonstrating advanced cases of wetland managements;⑥enhancing the management ability of the govenment, promoting the sustainable development of the wetland. The project has greatly accelerated the course of wetland biodiversity conservation, and government and publics have improved the consciousness of wetland conservation in China.
