On Markedness and Sexism

Markedness is originally regarded as applicable to phonemes standing in a privative opposition to each other.Later,it is applied to every level and component of language in applied linguistics and can be classified into norm markedness,classification markedness and semantic markedness.Through careful study of some male and female terms,it is easy to find that some female terms are loaded with some negative connotations while the male terms,positive ones.Obviously,this is the reflection of sexism in language.
