Abstract
Taking Jiangsu Province as a case, the spatial-temporal features and structure of cultivated land from 1996 to 2006 were analyzed by the statistical method and comparative analysis. The results showed that the sharp decreasing trend of cultivated land didn't reverse with the rapid development of economy. The main causes of cultivated land decrease were adjustment of agricultural structure and occupation of non-agricultural construction. The central area of cultivated land decrease was also the central area of economic growth. The main supplementary sources of cultivated land were land development and reclamation, and proportion of land arrangement was expected to rise.On this basis, policy proposals were put forward on protecting cultivated land in Jiangsu Province.
