Correlation between personality and mental health of senior middle school students

Abstract

Objective To discuss the correlation between personality and mental health of senior middle school students.Methods A total of 230 students from two schools in Shicheng County were investigated with the Self-report Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90) and the Big Five Personality Research Meter.Results The scores of SCL-90 factors of the senior middle school students were consistent with the national norm;the scores of SCL-90 factors of the third-grade students were higher than those of the first grade and second grade students(P0.01).The left-behind children got higher scores than non-left-behind children.The SCL-90 factors were positively related to extraversion,agreeableness and conscientiousness;meanwhile,the SCL-90 factors were negatively related to neuroticism.Conclusions The mental health status of the senior middle school students is significantly related to their personality traits.
