Abstract

Depression is a psychiatric illness that has a close relationship with coronary heart disease(CHD).Growing evidence indicates that depression is an important independent risk factor for the incidence,development and prognosis of CHD.The prevalence of depression in patients with established CHD is higher than general population.CHD patients with major or minor depression are at higher risk of morbidity and mortality compared with their non-depressed counterparts.This review focuses on the depression epidemiology in patients with CHD,the mechanism for CHD progress,and discuss the efficacy of treatment for depression in patients with CHD.
