Abstract

ObjectiveTo examine the p16 gene mRNA expression in lung cancer tissues and to explore the role of p16 gene in the tumorigenesis of lung cancer.MethodsBy using reverse transcription -polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR),the mRNA expression of p16 gene was detected in lung cancer tissues.Resultsp16 gene mRNA was detected in all benign diseases.p16 mRNA expression was detectable in 94.2% normal tissues, while 50.7% lung cancer tissues showed p16 gene mRNA expression ( P 0.05);p16 mRNA was positive in 46.0% of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC);p16 mRNA was more frequently present in cases with stage Ⅰ,Ⅱ and no lymph node metastasis ( P 0.05).Conclusion p16 gene mRNA expression has a closely relationship with clinic stage and lympth node metastasis; As a tumor suppressor gene,p16 may play an important role in the tumorigenesis of non-small cell lung cancers.
