Abstract
Objective To detect the relationship among extrapyramidal symptoms(EPS)and risperidone dosages and its efficacy in first-episode and never administered schizophrenic patients. Methods 63 schizophrenic patients who were first-episode and never administered neuroleptic agents, were treated with the risperidone dose 1~6mg/d and assessed with EPS by the extrapyramidal symptom rating scale(ESRS)and evaluated with clinical symptoms by the positive and negative syndrome scale(PANSS)before and after treatment. Results 46.4% patients had EPS with risperidone dose 4~6mg/d and 14.3% patients had EPS with risperidone dose≤3mg/d,the prevalence of EPS was significantly ,the efficacy between the patients has no different. In the patients with EPS,with the reduction of risperidone dosage, these symptoms were lessened or disappeared, but the efficacy was not lessened. Conclusions EPS were related with risperidone dosage and not related with its efficacy in first-episode and never administered schizophrenic patients.
