Abstract
Objective To study inhibiting effect of Patrina Villosa Juss extractive (PVJE) on benign prostatic hyperpla- sia of mice. Methods Mice were divided into five groups including positive control group, model group, Pulean tablets treating group, low dose PVJE group and high dose PVJE group. The mice in control group were injected subcuta- neously with peanut oil solution (0.1 ml), while in other groups testosterone propionate solution [5 mg/(kg·d)] was em- ployed instead of the oil. Meanwhile Pulean group was given gavage with Pulean 5 g/(kg·d), and low dose PVJE group and high dose PVJE group were given PVJE gavage [0.02, 0.04 g/(kg·d)] for 12 consecutive days. Wet weight of prostate, prostate health index, sex hormone levels and prostate morphological changes under light microscope were compared among different groups. Results Compared with model group, PVJE can apparently inhibit prostatic hyper- plasia in mice induced by testosterone propionate, reduce the serum testosterone (T), estrodiol (E2) contents. Conclusion PVJE have significant inhibiting effect on benign prostatic hyperplasia induced by testosterone propionate in mice.
