Marriage of the Hui People Formed under A Bi-cultural Background--Investigations on the Marriage of the Hui people of Najiaying Village in Tonghai County, Yunnan Province

The marriage of the Hui people sets itself apart from its ethnic counterparts in China. The unique form of the Hui people's marriage was born from the blending of the Arabic-Moslem culture and the Han culture in China. As a special marital discourse system in anthropological context, the Hui's marriage draws the essential ideas from the Han culture and is sustained by the religious framework of Islam. However, considering the evolution of the Hui's marriage in contemporary rural areas, traditional form of marriage is undergoing radical changes because of the powerful cultural and economic impacts from outside. Research of the marriage of the Hui people in Najiaying Village will shed much light on the evolution of the Hui's social structure
