Abstract

Aim:To investigate the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and endothelin-1(ET-1)in renal tissue of patients with IgA nephropathy. Methods:The expressions of VEGF and ET-1 in renal tissue from 52 cases of IgA nephropathy with vascular lesions(group A),38 cases of IgA nephropathy without vascular lesions(group B),and 48 cases of minimal change glomerulonephropathy(group C)were detected by immunohistochemical staining method. Results:The expression rates of VEGF in group A,B,and C were 94.2%,10.5% and 4.2%,meanwhile,the expression rates of ET-1 were 98.1%,13.2% and 6.3%,and there were significant differences in the expression rates of VEGF and ET-1 among the 3 groups(χ2=103.281 and 104.760,P0.001).The expression of VEGF was associated with that of ET-1 in group A,B,and C(rP=0.566,0.628,0.377,P0.05).Conclusion:VEGF and ET-1 may play an important role in the progression of IgA nephropathy, which could be used as the indicators of prognosis and treatment.
