Abstract

The effect of applied nitrogen and planting density on the yield and its components of the beer barley variety E32380 was studied using L9(34) Orthogonal design. The results showed that under the density 2.1×105 plants.hm-2,E32380 got the highest yield of 6514.5kg.hm-2,but there was no significant difference between density treatments. In this study, the yield of E32380 were increased with nitrogen levels and there were significant difference among different applied nitrogen levels.Interaction of planting density and applied nitrogen level had significant effects on yield. The treatments of 2.1×105 plants.hm-2 and 1.5×105 plants.hm-2 with 165 kg N-fertilizer.hm-2 had significant yield advantage than other treatments, and the yield was 7 327.5kg.hm-2 and 7 242.0 kg.hm-2 respectively.Path analysis showed that ear number and grain number per ear were the major factors that mostly influenced the yield of E32380.To achieve high and stable yield, the strategy is: focus on ear number, increasing seeds per ear and grain weight.
