Abstract

Objective To investigate the prevalence of HIV infection in patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis in Hunan Province,to analyze the cases with TB/HIV double infection, and to put forward some policy suggestions on prevention and control of TB/HIV double infection. Methods Fourteen counties were selected in Hunan Province through systematic sampling,in which new registered TB patients ranging from Sep.1,2007 to Dec.31,2007 were screened by HIV antibody test and diagnosed by Western blot test. Results Totally 1,947 TB cases were recruited in the study, among them 1,877 cases screened voluntarily, with the test rate of 96.4%.Two patients (1.01‰) were found to be TB/HIV double infected, both of whom had HIV high risk behavior. Conclusions The rate of HIV infection is lower in TB patients in Hunan Province.Conducting HIV antibody test among persons with HIV high risk behavior is of benefit to detecting more people living with HIV/AIDS.
