Opportunity of laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis

Abstract

Objective To explore the opportunity of laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis. Methods Ninety-six cases of acute cholecystitis (69 cases in earlier stage and 27 cases in advanced stage) underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy from July 2001 to October 2005 were analyzed retrospectively. Results Compared the two groups,the operative time was (33.4±6.8)minutes versus (67.6±16.7)minutes, the conversion rate to an open procedure was 7.2% versus 29.6% and postoperative hospitalization was (3.5±2.1)days versus (4.7±2.0)days.There were significantly less in earlier stage group than that in advanced stage group (P﹤0.05). Conclusions Laparoscopic cholecystectomy can be safely and feasibly applied to the patients with acute cholecystitis in earlier stage.
