In the confrontation with Xi and Khidan,An Lushan who led North-Eastern Three Military Regions became the strongest army in the Tang Dynasty.When An-Shi Rebellion broke out,these two external clans were split into two independent factions as a result of the Tang Dynasty's differentiation policy towards them.Xi and Khidan cooperated with Tang Dynasty's local armies to suppress the Rebellion in some circumstances,while contronting the dynasty on the other occasions.Such kinds of attitudes were determinated by their clan's own interest.After the rebellion,Huihu emerged and became the leading clan in North Asia.Xi and Khian were affiliated with it for a quite long period of time.
