Observation on effects of pantoprazole versus omeprazole in the treatment of patients with gastric ulcer

Objective To evaluate the effect and safety of pantoprazole in patients with gastric ulcer.Methods 60 patients were randomly assigned to receive one of the two regimens.They were pantoprazole 40mg oral qd and omeprazole 20mg qd.Two weeks later,endoscopies were performed to assess therapeutic efficacy.Results The ulcer-healing rate achieved 93.3% of pantoprazole patients and 90% of omeprazole patients.The difference had no statistical significance(P0.05).The trial results showed that the pain relief rate within first three days after the treatment in pantoprazole group and omeprazole was 73.3% and 46.7% respectively with significant difference between groups(P0.05).Conclusion It appears that pantoprazole is quicker in relieving the ulcer pain than omeprazole.Pantoprazole is a very effective and does not have obvious side effects.
