The effect of phacoemulsification and low power intraocular lens implantation on super high myopia with cataract

Abstract

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of phacoemulsification and low power intraocular lens implantation for super high myopia with cataract. Methods: Phacoemulsifiaction and low power intraocular lens implantation were performed on 40 eyes of 24 patients with super high myopia. The uncorrected visual acuity, the best corrected visual acuity, diopter and complications were observed after the operation. The follow up perio was 6~12 months. Results: Postoperative best corrected visual acuity was ≥0.3 in 32 eyes (80%), ≥0.5 in 24 eyes (60%). The deviation value of diopter after the surgery was 0.50D in 32 eyes(80%),more than 0.50D but less than 1.00D in 8 eyes (20%). No posterior capsule rupture occurred;Corneal edema was found in 20 eyes on the first day after the surgery and 4 examples occurred ocularhypertension.It disappeared within 3 to 5 days through management. None of the eyes were found with retinal detachment,choroidal detachment. Conclusion: Phacoemulsifiaction and low power intra ocular lens implantation can significantly improve visual acuity in patients with super high myopia and cataract.
