Abstract

Objective To observe the effect of short-term continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion(CSII) on blood glucose,beta-cell function and insulin resistance in patients with newly-diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods Seventy-two patients with newly-diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus receiving two weeks of CSII therapy were analyzed. The levels of the fasting plasma glucose(FPG),2 hours postpradial glucose(2hPG),and glycosylated hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c),fast insulin(FINS),2 hours postpradial insulin and insulin secretion indexes(HOMA-β) and insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) were determined and compared before and after CSII.Results The level of blood glucose was well stably controlled by CSII.The levels of FINS,HOMA-B were increased significantly two weeks after intensive treatment with CSII.The HOMA-IR were decreased significantly. Conclusion Short-term CSII intensive treatment can stably control the level of blood sugar, improve the function of beta-cell and reduce the resistance to insulin in type 2 diabetic patients.
