Abstract
Objective To summarize surgical technique and expeiences of carotid endarterectomy(CEA) in treatment of carotid stenosis. Methods The data of 82 patients with carotid stenosis underwent CEA were analyzed retrospectively.65%~95% stenosis of carotid artery was found in all cases by imaging tests before the procedures and carotid artery shunt was used in 16 cases during the procedures.Standard carotid endarterectomy(sCEA) and eversion carotid endarterectomy(eCEA) was performed in 48 and 34 patients, respectively. Results There was no operation-related mortality.During a follow-up time for 3~20 months, preoperative symptoms of all cases improved in different degrees, and transient ischemic attacks disappeared. While 9 cases still presented mild chronic cerebral ischemia and 1 case developed cerebral embolism at 3-day postoperatively, who got well after treatment.Doppler ultrasound after procedure showed that blood flow in brain got better in 73 patients. Conclusion CEA appears to be a safe, effective and correct operative technique.
