Study on adaptability of juveniles of Meretrix meretrix Linnaeus to salinity

Abstract

Effects of various seawater salinities on the growth and survival of juveniles of Meretrix meretrix Linnaeus by adopting indoor measures were investigated. The salinity ensuring mortality of 50% of 168h as a period of experiment was chosen as the survival critical salinity ,while the salinity in the group with 30% as much as the highest growth rate was set to be the growth-suitable critical salinity.Based on these critical salinities,the optimum salinity suitable for the juvenile of Meretrix meretrix Linnaeus was studied. The results show that when the juvenile body weight,shell length and shell height,water temperature and pH range are 13.07±3.4 mg,3.46±0.35 mm,3.16±0.30 mm,27.4~29.1℃,7.8~8.2 respectively,the suitable survival salinity is 6.5~39.5,the optimum survival salinity is 9.0 ~ 31.0,the suitable growth salinity is 7.3~38.7,the optimum growth salinity is 15.0~23.0. When salinity is higher or lower than the optimum range,survival rate,shell and body weight daily gains drop accordingly.
