Study on the defense style,social support and personality characteristics in patients with insomnia

Objective To explore the defense style,social support and personality characteristics in patients with insomnia.Method 62 patients with insomnia and 62 normal controls were evaluated with the Defense Style Questionnaire(DSQ),Social Support Assessment Scale(SSAS) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ).Results The factor scores of immature and neutral defense mechanism were significantly higher and the factor score of mature defense mechanism was lower in insomnia patients than that of the normal controls(P0.01).The total score of social support,scores of objective support and utilization level of SSAS were lower in insomnia patients than that of the normal controls(P0.05).The score of EPQ-Neuroticism was higher in insomnia patients than that of the normal controls((P0.01).)Conclusions The insomnia patients tended to use immature and neutral defense mechanism,and were lack of social support and instable characteristics of personality.
