The Corrections and Supplements to Duan’s Notes on the Words Tabooed in Shuo Wen

Abstract

There are no explanations of five words :hu(祜)、zhuang(莊庄)、xiu(秀)、da(炟）、zhao(肈) in Shuo Wen Jie Zi (the earliest philological work in China to make a systematic study of words) in order to taboo on using the personal names of emperors in Dong Han Dynasty .Duan Yu-cai′notes on these words are simple. Towards Duan’ notes,the writer of this paper puts forward her own views, some are addenda, some are deliberations, and the writer wishes to get experts’instructions.
