Up-to-date Explication on Folkcustoms in Lingnan (South of the Five Ridges in China)

The present remarkable variations of folk culture in Lingnan, Zhujiang Delta in particular, are atributed not only to its being on the opening and reform zone, to economic development and the easily political environment with commercial culture properties that are practical, free and flexible, but also to less historical culture burden as well as the geographical circumstances in that the South of the Five Ridges is adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao. This thesis, based on field investigations, summarizes the four features of present variants in Lingnan Folkcustoms. They are: the close combination of traditional folklore with modern society; the subject; the unprecedented prosperity of traditional folk belief; the influence upon folklore society. Culture explication is also made on the cultural characters of Lingnan, on the present social traits and personality of populance in groups.
