Abstract

The scholar, Wang Guowei, proposed the concepts of and ego restraint in Renjiancihua (on the mundane affairs), which has aroused heated discussion among Chinese scholars for years. Most arguments emphasize the influence of Schopenhauer and Kant who were western aesthetics, and ego restraint was considered as a contrast to ego. The article will analyze original interpretation of ego restraint and explore the connection between the thought of Wang Guowei and Chinese Tao and Zen reflected in ancient aesthetics.
