Expression of VEGF in colorectal cancer and its relationship to clinical therapy

Abstract

【Objective】To explore the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and survivin in carcinoma of large intestine and its relationship to clinical therapy.【Methods】The VEGF was detected by immunohistochemistry in 80 cases with colorectal carcinoma and 12 cases with normal tissue.【Results】The positive rates of VEGF protein were detected in 45.4% in 80 cases with colorectal carcinoma.The expression of VEGF protein in colorectal cancer tissue was higher than that of normal mucosa.VEGF positive expression was significantly correlated with the tumor differentiation,lymph node metastasis and Duke′s stage in 80 cases of intestinal carcinoma(P 0.05).The positive rates of VEGF were significantly higher in the tissue of Duck′s C-D stages,with lymph node metastasis than of Duck′s A-B stages,without lymph node metastasis.【Conclusion】The high expression of VEGF must be associated with the Duke′s stage,biological behaviors and prognosis of colorectal cancer and it may serve as a prognostic indicator and guide the treatment.
