Abstract

Objective: To investigate the expression and the signification of C-erbB-2 gene in breast cancer and its relationship with histological type, lymph node metastasis, ER and PR. Methods: The expression of C-erbB-2 in 179 breast cancer was studied with immunohistochemical method. Results: The positive rate of C-erbB-2 was 29.6% in 179 breast cancer, the positive rates of C-erbB-2 in ductal carcinoma in situ were 52.9%, it was low in others histological type (45%). There was significant difference between them. Significant relationship was also found between positive expression of C-erbB-2gene and lymph node metastasis (P0.05), and it was in negative correlation with ER and PR. Conclusion: C-erbB-2 maybe an important role in the process of carcinogenesis in the breast, and be used as a useful marker for the early diagnosis and distant metastasis in breast cancer.
