Treatment of recurrent retinal detachment in silicone oil-filled eyes by vitreoretinal surgery with silicone oil in situ

Abstract

Objective To investigate the procedures and effects of vitreoretinal surgery with silicone oil in situ treating recurrent retinal detachment in silicone oil-filled eyes.Methods The causes of recurrence,operations,anatomical reposition and visual functional recovery were analyzed in 32 silicone oil-filled eyes.Results As for the causes of recurrent retinal detachment,21 eyes were due to PVR,3 eyes peripheral unclosed breaks,5 eyes posterior slippage of giant retinal tear(GRT) and 3 eyes unclosed macula hole.Retina was reattached in all eyes after operation.Visual acuity was better than 0.05 in 15 eyes.After a half year follow-up,recurrence was found in 5 eyes.Conclusion Vitreoretinal surgery with silicone oil in situ is simple and safe,and good anatomical reposition and visual functional recovery could be achieved.
