Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of decompression of optical canal via pterion approach for traumatic optic nerve injury. Method 12 cases of optic nerve injury underwent decompression via pterion approach, the whole length of optical canal were exposed and opened followed by splitting of sheath of optical nerve and Zinn's ring. Result 10 cases have improved visual power, 2 cases failed to show any improvement. Conclusion Decompression of optical canal via pterion approach for traumatic optic nerve injury can achieve good exposure, giving more convenience for the operation, and better chance for a fully decompression and better prognosis.
