Clinical Effect of Electric Acupuncture and Baclofen on Recovery of Spasticity

Objective:To explore the effect of electric acupuncture and baclofen on the spasticity of stroke patients with hemiplegia.Methods:Forty-eight stroke patients with hemiplegia were randomly divided into treatment group and control group.In both groups,the patients were orally administered with baclofen and subjected to routine rehabilitation training.Besides,the patients in treatment group were subjected to electric acupuncture.Modified Ashworth Scale and Barthel index were used to assess the degree of muscle tension and the activities of daily living(ADL) before and 60 days after treatment.Results:After treatment for 2 months,spasticity scores in treatment group were significantly reduced as compared with those before treatment and control group(P0.01).The ADL scores in the treatment group were obviously higher than those in the control group(P0.01).Conclusion:The electric acupuncture and baclofen therapies could reduce spasticity of stroke patients and improve the ADL.
