Abstract
Objective To study the expressions of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9),vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and their correlation with angiogenesis and biological behaviour in renal cell carcinoma(RCC).Methods The expressions of MMP-9,VEGF and CD34 were detected by means of immunohistochemistry in 78 cases of RCC.Results The positive expression rate of MMP-9 was 87% in the high staging group and 50% in the low staging group, the statistical significance existed between the two groups(P0.01);the MVD was 140.86±24.87 in both positive expressions of MMP-9 and VEGF,was higher than that in the single positive ones(99.3±47.97)(P0.01)and the both negative ones(80.16±33.83)(P0.000 1).The expression of MMP-9 correlated with VEGF in renal cell carcinoma(r=0.409 66,P0.01).Conclusion MMP-9 and VEGF may serve as biological predictor for tumor metastatic potential in renal cell carcinoma.
