Experimental study on glutathione decrease the level of serum homocysteine in rabbits

Objective To investigate the effects of Glutathione decrease the level of serum Homocysteine.Methods Rabbits were randomly divided into control group which was fed on common food 100g a day;Model group which was fed on food that composed of common food containing 1% methionine 100g a day;Low dose Glutathione group which was fed on food that composed of common food containing 1% Methionine 100g a day plus muscle inject the Glutathione 15mg/(kg·d);High dose glutathione group which was fed on food that composed of common food containing 1% Methionine 100g a day plus muscle inject the Glutathione 30mg/(kg·d).The serum level of Homocysteine was examined before and 8 weeks after experiment and the results were analyzed.Results The serum level of Homocysteine of rabbits could be decreased by inject Glutathione(P0.05).Conclusion Glutathione can decrease the level of serum Homocysteine and can cure atherosclerosis.
