Evaluation of the Therapeutic Effect of Methadone Maintenance in 115 Cases of Heroin Addicts

Abstract

Objective: To provide technical and political support for MMT promoting by analyzing the running status of methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) in Shanghai. Methods: 115 cases of MMT patients from 9 communities of Changning district were surveyed with MMT Observation Scale, Questionary and National Estimating Scheme. Results: (1)high-risk behavior decreased greatly; (2)the crime rate decreased; (3)the family relationship improved; (4)the job-desire increased; (5)some hidden drug addicts immerged. Conclusion: Community MMT strategies, management and technical measures are proposed; It is validated that MMT could reduce illegal heroin use and related dangerous behavior led to AIDS, resume the social functions of the heroin addicts. However the promotion of MMT still faces some problems.
